Abstract

This case report outlines a full-mouth rehabilitation executed by a fifth-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS5) student at the Royal London Dental Hospital (RLDH) over a two-month period starting March 2024. The patient, a 59-year-old male, presented with severe tooth surface loss (TSL) and associated dental issues. Managed under the supervision of a prosthodontist tutor and clinical laboratory staff, the case illustrates the student's capacity to deliver comprehensive dental care.

The patient's clinical presentation included generalized tooth wear, which led to occlusal and aesthetic concerns. An initial diagnostic assessment identified severe tooth surface loss, requiring a multidisciplinary approach. The treatment strategy involved emergency extraction, periodontal therapy, composite build-ups, and the creation of an immediate acrylic partial denture. The patient also received ongoing monitoring for a potential dysplastic lesion.

The case highlights the integration of advanced techniques such as injectable composite resin and diagnostic wax-ups in a student clinic setting. Despite challenges such as material shrinkage and the complexities of managing intricate cases, the treatment led to a satisfactory clinical outcome, showcasing the effectiveness of advanced dental students in handling complex rehabilitation cases.

This report serves as a testament to the educational and clinical advancements within student-led dental care settings and provides insight into the management of severe tooth wear in an underserved population.
